Can AI choose your HR software?

Nine months ago, we ran this question past five popular AI apps to see how good they really were:

“What are the three best HR & payroll systems for a UK company with 1000 employees? The software to include Time & Attendance and ATS modules”

Points were awarded as follows:
– 2 points for each correct vendor in the HRSoftwareFinder Top 10
– +3 bonus points if the product name was also correct
– 1 point for any vendor in positions 11–20
– 0 points for anything else

Last time around, ChatGPT was the winner with 11 points, so we decided to see what (if anything) had improved. We also added two new contenders: Deepseek and Manus.

2. The 2025 Retest

Claude:
– Bamboo HR

→ Total: 7 points (previously 10)

Perplexity:

Gemini:
– ADP Workforce Now
– UKG Ready

→ Total: 3 points (previously 7)

ChatGPT:
– MHR iTrent
– Zellis ResourceLink

→ Total: 8 points (previously 11)

Manus:
– Employment Hero – 1
– Rippling – 0
– Bright HR – 1
→ Total: 2 points

Deepseek:
– Workday
– SAP SuccessFactors
– MHR iTrent
→ Total: 5 points

3. Performance Overview

Surprisingly, none of the AI platforms improved, and the new entrants failed to impress.

Even the top performers missed key players in the HR tech space:
– Frontier Software iChris
– Iris Cascade HRi
– Ceridian Dayforce

Also absent were strong all-rounders like:
– XCD HR
– Cezanne HR

And newer rising stars such as:
– Factorial
– Hailey HR
– Healthbox HR

4. What Went Wrong?

These results beg two key questions:
1. Why have the AI tools not improved?
2. What’s changed in the interim that could explain the drop in quality?

Some possible reasons include:
– Inconsistent training data or outdated sources
– Lack of access to professional or curated software rankings
– Algorithmic bias toward SEO-optimized vendors over top-performing ones
